Konecranes and Kalmar have confirmed they have received refunds for tariffs previously paid in the United States following the repeal of duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) . The refunds follow a ruling earlier this year that invalidated the tariff measures, allowing companies to recover duties already paid on affected imports. According to Kalmar , the company has started receiving tariff refunds after the repeal of the IEEPA duties. The company said the repayments had no material impact on its profitability during the first half of 2026. During its second-quarter earnings presentation, Kalmar added that the refunds received so far amount to a low single-digit figure in millions of euros. Konecranes also reported a positive impact from tariff refunds in its half-year financial results. According to the company, the refunds partly offset lower margins in its Port Solutions business during the second quarter. Konecranes also said it expects to pursue additional refund claims where eligible. Impact on the port equipment sector Both companies are among the world’s leading suppliers of container handling equipment, including ship-to-shore cranes, rubber-tyred gantry cranes and automated terminal solutions. The recovery of previously paid tariffs provides some financial relief for manufacturers that export equipment to the United States, where trade policy changes have affected costs and supply chains in recent years. The refunds also illustrate the wider implications of the repeal of the IEEPA tariff measures. Companies that paid duties under the programme may now seek reimbursement, depending on their individual circumstances and the applicable customs procedures. According to the companies, the refunds have not changed their broader market outlook.
