Image Credit: CSL Group Maritime company CSL Group has taken delivery of a battery-hybrid self-unloading bulk carrier that it says is the world’s first vessel of its kind. The ship, MV Yampu , was delivered on June 5 and will enter service for construction material firm Adbri in South Australia , transporting limestone for the company's operations, the firm said in a press release issued on Friday . Its hybrid propulsion system is designed to reduce bunker fuel consumption by 25% and cut emissions by 40% . CSL plans for the vessel to operate fully on electric power by 2031 , which could reduce emissions by more than 90% . “ MV Yampu is the result of a close collaboration between the CSL and Adbri teams, reflecting both companies’ shared commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and the decarbonisation of the maritime industry,” the company said. Earlier this month, the company took delivery of another self-unloading bulk carrier suitable to allow future conversion to methanol propulsion.  Ship & Bunker News Team To contact the editor responsible for this story email us at [email protected] Also in the News 'Extremely Low Avails' Drive Fujairah VLSFO Price to Record High With no new supply on the horizon, Fujairah's VLSFO prices are being driven to new records, a local source tells Ship & Bunker.
