American Club Circular No. 30/11 1 OCTOBER 28, 2011 CIRCULAR NO. 30/11 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: CLEAN SEAS: COMPLYING WITH MARPOL 73/78 – OFFLINE ACCESS THROUGH PLUG & PLAY (PNP) PORTABLE HARD DRIVES. Members will be aware that, currently, the e-learning modules in regard to the above learning tool are accessible online. However, for those locations where there is no broadband connection to the internet, your Managers are pleased to announce that an off-line option has been developed. This has just been released and is available now. This “Plug and Play” (PnP) facility will make it easier and more convenient for seafarers to access the learning modules onboard ship. Members can still track their seafarers’ knowledge as the off-line system has a facility to export results and update records in the online server. The portable hard drive can be purchased by visiting: https://secure.idessonline.com/americanclub/elearning/orderform/ A price of US$150 for each PnP portable hard drive with the Clean Seas e-learning system will be charged on ordering. This is a one time fee with a perpetual license. However, it will require activation every year. To protect the hard drive from damage and from corruption by viruses, a dedicated computer or laptop is recommended. Replacement of hard drives damaged or rendered inoperable by the user will be at the Member’s expense. It should be noted that the Club’s IT provider of this facility, IDESS I.T., attaches certain warranties to the provision of the portable hard drive, the details of which will be communicated to acquirers of the offline system on the purchase thereof. It should also be noted that, following purchase, a detailed process flow to access the new system will be required. The relevant steps can be seen at: https://secure.idessonline.com/americanclub/elearning/userguide/AP&I_Plug_and_Play_HD_Process_ Flow_for_Super_Admin.pdf Members who have any further questions or inquiries in regard to the above, or generally, are asked to contact Dr. William Moore, Senior Vice President at +1 212 847 4542 or by e-mail at william.moore@american-club.com. Yours faithfully, Joseph E.M. Hughes, Chairman & CEO Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc., Managers for THE AMERICAN CLUB
