CMA CGM has warned of continued logistics disruption at the Port of Buenaventura following the earthquake that affected western Colombia on 10 August 2026. The impact remains concentrated on Colombia’s Pacific Coast, particularly in and around Buenaventura. Operations on the country’s Atlantic Coast remain fully operational and unaffected, according to the French carrier. Buenaventura operations partially resume Terminal operations at Buenaventura have partially resumed. However, vessels are still being handled under constrained conditions as recovery efforts continue. Yard utilization remains critically high, creating severe space limitations at the terminal. Staffing shortages are also affecting productivity, as part of the local workforce remains unavailable. Meanwhile, congestion and restricted terminal access are disrupting empty container returns. A major challenge remains the Cali-Buenaventura corridor, the main logistics route serving the port. The corridor has not yet been fully restored due to ongoing landslides and infrastructure instability. As a result, CMA CGM expects delays in cargo evacuation, container returns and inland transportation to and from Buenaventura. CMA CGM considers alternative routings The carrier is implementing contingency measures in coordination with terminal operators, inland transportation providers and local authorities. CMA CGM said it is monitoring terminal capacity, berth availability and yard conditions while assessing alternative operational solutions. The company is also considering cargo rerouting options, including through Puerto Antioquia, if necessary. Critical cargo will be prioritized where operationally possible, while the carrier is coordinating with trucking companies and logistics providers to accelerate cargo movements once road conditions allow.
