Swire Shipping will implement a rate restoration on shipments from Asia and the Indian Subcontinent to several Pacific destinations. The increase will apply to cargo originating in North Asia, Greater China, Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. From 24 September 2026, Swire Shipping will apply an increase of US$300 per 20-foot container and US$600 per 40-foot container. Affected destinations The rate restoration will apply to shipments bound for: Papua New Guinea Townsville, Australia American Samoa Cook Islands Fiji Kiribati Marshall Islands Nauru Niue Samoa Tahiti Tonga Tuvalu Vanuatu Wallis and Futuna The increase will apply on top of existing ocean freight rates. All surcharges valid at the time of shipment will also remain applicable. Swire Shipping attributed the adjustment to ongoing equipment imbalances, stronger cargo demand and continued increases in operating costs and charter rates. The new rates will apply to cargo with a Bill of Lading dated on or after 24 September 2026. Routes regulated by the US Federal Maritime Commission will remain subject to the applicable regulatory notice period.
