The Port of Dover will welcome the Nao Victoria, a full-scale replica of the first ship to complete a circumnavigation of the globe, from 21 to 31 August 2026. The vessel will be open to the public at Dover Marina, next to the RNLI lifeboat station. The visit follows the successful appearance of the Galeón Andalucía at the Port of Dover in 2025. The original Nao Victoria was the only vessel to complete the historic expedition that began in 1519 under the command of Ferdinand Magellan. After Magellan’s death, Juan Sebastián Elcano led the ship back to Spain in 1522, completing the first voyage around the world. The replica has also made history. In 2004, it became the first replica of the famous ship to sail around the globe. “It’s amazing to have another iconic tall ship coming to the Port for the second summer in a row,” said Diederik Smet, Civic Engagement and Partnership Manager at the Port of Dover. “The Galeón Andalucía was hugely popular with our local community in 2025, so we are delighted visitors can once again experience an important chapter of maritime history here in Dover.” The Nao Victoria Foundation described the vessel as the world’s only seaworthy replica of the ship that completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth. The foundation said visitors will have the opportunity to step aboard the replica and explore one of the most significant achievements in maritime history.
