CMA CGM and MSC have announced new Panama Canal-related charges for shipments from Asia to the US East Coast and US Gulf. Both updates cover container services transiting the Panama Canal. However, the carriers will apply different rates and effective dates. CMA CGM will apply a Panama Canal Adjustment Factor of US$500 per TEU from 10 September 2026. MSC will revise its Panama Canal Surcharge from 12 September. CMA CGM sets Panama Canal charge at US$500 per TEU CMA CGM will apply a Panama Canal Adjustment Factor of US$500 per TEU. The charge covers cargo from the Far East moving via the Panama Canal to the US East Coast and US Gulf. It will apply to all cargo from 10 September 2026. However, shipments from Bangladesh to the US East Coast are excluded. MSC revises Panama Canal Surcharge MSC will also revise its Panama Canal Surcharge for shipments to the US East Coast and US Gulf Coast. The carrier said ongoing draft restrictions at the Panama Canal continue to reduce vessel capacity on services using the waterway. From 12 September 2026, based on the gate-in date, MSC will apply the following charges: 20-foot container: US$149 40-foot container: US$297 45-foot container: US$376 The rates apply to all cargo types and will remain in place until further notice.
