MSC will introduce a Panama Canal Surcharge (PCS) on shipments from Asia to the US East Coast and US Gulf Coast, citing operational constraints and higher transit costs associated with the Panama Canal. The surcharge will apply to cargo moving from Southeast Asia, China, South Korea and Japan to destinations on the US East Coast and US Gulf Coast. Effective from 19 August 2026 (gate-in date) and until further notice, the PCS will be set at US$100 per TEU and will apply to all cargo types. MSC said the measure is intended to help maintain the reliability and quality of its services amid the increased costs of transiting the Panama Canal.
