CMA CGM has announced several updates affecting cargo to the Maldives, Kenya and Latin America. The changes include new surcharges and documentation requirements. Maldives surcharge rises to US$450 per TEU CMA CGM will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on cargo from the Far East to the Maldives . The surcharge will initially be US$150 per TEU from 12 September 2026. It will then increase to US$450 per TEU from 15 September . The surcharge applies to all cargo. For shipments from China, CMA CGM said the PSS will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or included in the ocean freight. New cargo requirement for Kenya imports CMA CGM has also informed customers about new documentation requirements for containerised cargo imported into Kenya. The Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) requirement took effect on 3 August 2026. Under the new rule, an ACD Reference Code must be obtained before cargo is loaded . The code must also appear on the final Bill of Lading. Shippers must submit several documents to obtain the code. These include the draft Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, freight invoice and export declaration. Once the process is completed, a 15-digit ACD Reference Number is issued. CMA CGM warned that incorrect or missing information could cause delays. Cargo could also face additional inspections or problems with discharge. Financial penalties may also apply. CMA CGM adds Low Water Surcharge CMA CGM will introduce a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) of US$150 per TEU on selected Americas trades from 1 October 2026. The surcharge applies to all cargo. It covers shipments from the US East Coast and Gulf, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and American Samoa to the South America West Coast . It will also apply from the US West Coast to several destinations. These include the South America East Coast, Central America East Coast and Caribbean, Mexico East Coast, Guyana-North Brazil, Leeward and Windward destinations. Gustavia is excluded from this scope.
