Maersk will introduce new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) on cargo moving from the Mediterranean to the United States and Canada. The new charges will take effect on 7 October 2026 and will remain in place until further notice. West Mediterranean surcharge set at $250 per container For cargo moving from the West Mediterranean to the United States and Canada, Maersk will apply a surcharge of US$250 per container . The rate applies to 20-foot, 40-foot, 45-foot high-cube dry and 40-foot reefer containers. The origin scope includes ports in South West Europe and Central South Europe. Countries covered include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Algeria, Spain, France, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Morocco, Malta, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia and Tunisia. East Mediterranean surcharge also starts on 7 October Maersk will also introduce a PSS on cargo moving from the East Mediterranean to the United States and Canada. For Bulgaria, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Lebanon, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine, the surcharge will be US$250 per container . For cargo originating in Syria, the surcharge will be €220 per container . The East Mediterranean measure applies to all dry container types. Pricing basis depends on booking type For non-SPOT bookings, the applicable rate will be determined using Maersk’s Price Calculation Date. For non-FMC cargo, this refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated cargo, the relevant date is the final container gate-in date. For SPOT bookings, the rate will be based on the first vessel’s estimated departure date at booking confirmation.
