Davie has launched Davie Autonomous Inc., a new Ontario-based company that will manufacture and integrate uncrewed and autonomous maritime vehicles and systems in Canada. The company will initially focus on advanced composite uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) developed in partnership with Kraken Technology Group. The announcement follows the strategic collaboration between Davie and Kraken unveiled in May, which aims to establish Canadian production of Kraken’s autonomous maritime technologies. Davie said it is also in advanced negotiations with several sites in Ontario to create a production network as part of a nationwide manufacturing strategy. The plan will combine Ontario’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, composites, robotics and automation with Davie’s shipbuilding and systems integration capabilities. The new company will also develop Canadian expertise in mission systems, software and payload integration for applications including surveillance, search and rescue, coastal security, critical infrastructure protection and defence. Lindsey Kettel, President of Davie, said the new company brings together Canadian shipbuilding, advanced manufacturing and technology to strengthen the country’s autonomous maritime capabilities while creating high-value jobs. Kraken Technology Group recently achieved a US$1 billion valuation following a US$175 million Series B funding round backed by institutional and strategic investors, including the NATO Innovation Fund, the British Business Bank and Inocea Group, Davie’s parent company. Davie said the initiative is expected to strengthen Canada’s domestic defence manufacturing base while integrating Canadian companies into global supply chains.
