DHL Global Forwarding has acquired Aero Cargas S.A. , giving the company its first direct operation in Uruguay. The acquisition expands DHL’s presence in Latin America and strengthens its network across the Southern Cone. Aero Cargas has worked with DHL Group for 33 years . Following the acquisition, the Uruguayan company will become part of DHL Global Forwarding. Financial terms were not disclosed. DHL establishes direct presence in Uruguay Aero Cargas has more than 58 years of experience in the South American logistics market. The company provides air and ocean freight services, land transport and multimodal logistics. It also has experience in industrial projects, pharmaceutical logistics and Free Trade Zone operations. DHL sees Uruguay as an important gateway for regional trade. The country connects markets across Mercosur and provides access to major Atlantic shipping routes. “Latin America is becoming increasingly important as companies diversify supply chains and strengthen regional distribution networks,” said Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding. He said the acquisition would improve DHL’s connectivity across the Americas. Healthcare logistics a key focus The deal will also expand DHL’s Life Sciences & Healthcare business. Aero Cargas provides pharmaceutical logistics and regional inventory services. It also has an established healthcare customer base. According to DHL, more than US$1 billion of pharmaceuticals move through Uruguay annually . Products arriving from Europe and North America are distributed through Uruguay to markets including Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia. DHL also expects the acquisition to strengthen its industrial project logistics business. Aero Cargas employees to join DHL Aero Cargas will join DHL Global Forwarding’s Peru-Ecuador-Argentina-Chile cluster.
